Abdi Abdille Ali grew up in Wajir in the former Northern Eastern Province (NEP) of Kenya. He moved to Nairobi at the age of 12 due to a lack of special schools in his hometown. He is currently the Chairman of the Nairobi Association of the Deaf (NAD), which was established to address challenges faced by members of the Deaf community residing in Nairobi. In his capacity as chairman, he assists members access education and to overcome communication barriers in schools. He also addresses the issue of the shortage of Kenyan Sign Language interpreters.
Under his leadership, NAD has successfully provided 42 wheelchairs to people with disabilities in Nairobi, established a school feeding program for students fasting during Ramadan, and created awareness initiatives for International Deaf Awareness Week and UN Disability Day each year.
Abdi is also the founder of Global Deaf Cleaning Services, which has employed over 62 people with disabilities to work in banks, private companies, supermarkets, and the Takaful insurance of Africa.
